In 1994, the Long Island Model Railroad Engineers were invited by the Railroad Museum of Long Island to develop a display of the LIRR Greenport yards and facilities for permanent exhibition at the Museum in Greenport, New York. The club chose to model the yard circa 1950. This fully operational HO diorama is 20 feet long by 4 feet wide. While the diorama was built in HO scale, all the member of the club participated in its construction. Using historical material including aerial photos and available plans, club members duplicated the yard and environs, including the pier, depot, freight house and turntable. Funds for the construction were provided by the club. The diorama may be seen by the public at the Railroad Museum of Long Island.
